Barrie Allandale Transit Terminal

The Barrie Allandale Transit Terminal is a major infrastructure project designed to serve as a central transportation hub for the City of Barrie. Strategically located to integrate surrounding transit networks, the terminal will provide seamless connections to Simcoe County, Muskoka, and the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). It will also enhance integration with Metrolinx’s Regional Express Rail services, Ontario Northland, and Barrie’s own local transit system.

The Project responds to Barrie’s rapid population growth, with projections indicating the City will exceed 210,000 residents within the next ten years. The new terminal aims to meet increasing demand for accessible, efficient, and future-ready transit solutions.

In alignment with the City’s sustainability goals, the terminal is targeting a carbon-neutral, resilient design intended to reduce long-term operating costs. In addition to forward-looking infrastructure, the Project also pays tribute to the area’s past by preserving historic elements of the Allandale neighbourhood, a former railway town annexed by Barrie in 1896.

LMDG’s scope of services on this project included an assessment of the life safety and fire protection aspects per the standards set out in the Ontario Building Code (OBC) and the Ontario Fire Code (OFC). Due to the existing site conditions, further review was required including spatial separation calculations and developing a compliance approach for acceptable limiting distances.
