Baycrest Avenue Elementary School

The Baycrest Avenue School is an all-new elementary school constructed for the Toronto Catholic District School Board. It’s designed to accommodate over 500 students from kindergarten to grade eight, and includes a care wing for nearly 50 infants, toddlers, and pre-schoolers. The design plan for the school focuses on creating environments that promote learning through collaboration and critical thinking, all informed by a 21st century learning approach.

This construction project also features sustainable design aspects, including green roofs, strategic use of natural lighting combined with LED lighting, as well as displacement ventilation. This not only saves money, but means the school is in compliance with the Toronto Green Standards. These standards incorporate Toronto’s sustainable design and performance requirements, which aim to accelerate action on climate change.

LMDG’s involvement primarily includes the review and assessment of the level of fire protection and life safety with respect to the minimum applicable fire protection and life safety requirements of the Ontario Building Code (OBC) and the Ontario Fire Code (OFC).
