Confederation Centre of the Arts

The Confederation Centre of the Arts renewal is a major renovation that will allow the facility to be enjoyed by more visitors, thanks to significant accessibility upgrades. The renewal also includes a major energy retrofit, new classrooms and learning spaces, a new rehearsal hall, and a full interior renovation of the library. This facility will provide a cultural hub for the community, fostering meaningful discussions.

As part of the major energy retrofit, the project is targeting a Net-Zero Carbon certification. While preserving most of the mass-concrete structure, large central skylights will be introduced, as well as stack effect ventilation, solar panels, and PV rooftop arrays. These modifications are set to reduce the facility’s energy consumption by over 68%! These renovations will bring the facility in line with Canada’s environmental priorities.

LMDG is providing building code consulting services on this project. This includes reviewing and assessing the level of fire protection and life safety relative to the requirements set out in the National Building Code (NBC) and the National Fire Code (NFC). This also included additional scope such as performing occupant load calculations.
