PNE Amphitheatre

The Pacific National Exhibition (PNE) Amphitheatre, set to be a dynamic hub for year-round cultural engagement, will boast an innovative starburst mass timber arch roof, a standout feature that will make it one of the largest free-span timber structures globally. Spanning an impressive 340 feet with 60 arches, the roof’s design, inspired by the natural slopes of Windermere Hill, will offer a welcoming space under its vast timber expanse.

Designed to host a variety of events, the Amphitheatre will offer flexible seating options, including removable sections for versatile event formats and fixed seats for perfect stage views, complemented by exclusive VIP Box Suites. The venue’s capacity is significantly increased to 10,000 with the addition of lawn seating, creating a casual viewing experience that blends seamlessly with the picturesque surroundings. The project is committed to sustainability and accessibility, targeting LEED Gold and Salmon Safe certifications with eco-friendly features like a rainwater system, and striving for the Rick Hansen Gold certification with its inclusive design.

LMDG’s scope of services includes assessing and reviewing the fire protection and life safety requirements outlined in the Vancouver Building By-Law 2019 and the Vancouver Fire By-Law. Due to the complexity and intricacies of this project’s design, LMDG has provided numerous alternative solutions to achieve compliance using a performance-based design approach. Additionally, LMDG is acting as the Certified Professional (CP), assisting the client and design team throughout construction, as well as the building and occupancy permit processes. Finally, LMDG is providing Rick Hansen Accessibility Certification services to achieve the desired Gold Certification with the Rick Hansen Foundation.
