Carmen Corbasson Community Centre

Originally opened in 1972 as the Cawthra Road Community Centre, the newly redeveloped Carmen Corbasson Community Centre has undergone a major transformation to meet the evolving needs of a growing and diverse community. The revitalized facility now features a state-of-the-art fitness centre, a modern aquatics centre, flexible multi-purpose spaces, a renovated indoor arena, and enhanced connections to the adjacent Seniors’ Centre.

The redevelopment focused on improving accessibility and sustainability, incorporating inclusive design principles and targeting green building standards throughout. A standout feature of the new facility is the prominent use of exposed mass timber, with striking beams that add both warmth and architectural character to the interior spaces.

LMDG provided fire protection and life safety consulting using the Ontario Building Code (OBC) and the Ontario Fire Code (OFC). LMDG also performed the role of accessibility consultant, which included a thorough review of the accessibility requirements outlined in both the OBC as well as the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA). This required numerous reviews and reports, as well as the preparation of multiple performance-based design alternative solutions.
